Part of what ICEJ's work in Israel is a practical application of "comforting the nation" - it involves numerous projects, some small, some larger, but all making a difference and adding value to someone's life. Here in the UK we are committed to supporting these programmes - for the latest ICEJ Aid news follow this link to main webpage of ICEJ Aid.
HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE DAY - JANUARY 27, 2009
A major focus at the moment is ICEJ's Aid's 'Adopt a Holocaust Survivor' programme. See January's update from ICEJ Aid, and also this bulletin from Jerusalem:-
Adopt a Holocaust Survivor
For ten years now, January 27th has been reserved in Germany for a day of remembrance; a day the country remembers when the Holocaust became a lasting scar on world history. On this date in 1945, the Red Army liberated Auschwitz, exposing Nazi brutality to the world. This year it will be recognized by the United Nations as a global anniversary. Its recognition by the world body comes at a time when there is a frightening resurgence of anti-Semitism and continuing Holocaust denial. Each year too, the number of eye witnesses dwindles.
ICEJ Aid has partnered with the Israeli organisation L'Chaim (To Life) that cares for a number of survivors in the Galilee, the Golan and coastal region, helping to cover their medications, food, house repairs, and other needs. This arrangement now allows Christians the opportunity to “adopt” a Holocaust survivor. Just as important, the lonely elderly survivors are offered companionship through in-home visits by young Israeli volunteers from local schools. Click on the video below to understand more about this program.
Many Holocaust Survivors are still waiting for help. Full sponsorship is $US250/€200 per month and we request a commitment of at least one year. A fellowship group may like to jointly adopt a survivor. Part adoption is also welcome. One-time gifts are used for special needs of the survivors. Write to icejaid@icej.org for further information and a commitment form.
**** Please note that gifts towards sponsoring survivors can also be sent via the UK Branch to help us support this adoption programme. Please contact Wendy at ICEJ UK on 01923 445983
**** Make sure it never happens again..... STOP A NUCLEAR IRAN .... Follow this link to sign an online petition for indictment of Iran's president; we need to take action to ensure it never happens again. On September 18, 2008 this petition was delivered to the United Nations in New York on behalf of over 55,000 Christians from more than 120 countries. Although the petition is now formally closed, you can still add your name online and demonstrate your support for our efforts to urge the UN to indict President Ahmadinjad for incitement to genocide against Israel. Thank you for taking a stand with Israel at this time!
